Outdoor advertising: Is it worth your time and money?
I. Let's take a look at the numbers.
Have you ever thought about how many billboards you pass while driving?
A recent poll has found that 71% of drivers look at billboards while driving and 50% of drivers consider themselves "highly engaged". A separate poll found that 56% of drivers can recall a humorous advertisement from their drive that day, and 50% learned about a store that they visited at a later date.
These polls only reference billboards, but outdoor marketing can also include: lamp poles, bus stops, park benches, mobile billboards, interactive screens, and bridges. The opportunities grow via Out-Of-Home (OOH) marketing are endless.
II. The Five Keys to OOH Success
1. LOCATION
Location, location, location! The more eyes on your ad, the better. Make sure you're investing in a spot with lots of vehicle (or foot) traffic.
2. GRAB THEIR ATTENTION
Creating an eye-catching display can be challenging, but you can never go wrong with jokes or puppies! People will never get enough puppies. Be creative in the way you present your ad - sometimes the most memorable displays aren't as serious as you'd think.
3. CALL TO ACTION (CTA)
Make sure your display has an opportunity for action. Providing a phone number, promo code, website URL, directions, etc. are all examples of CTAs.
4. SHORT AND TO THE POINT
Unless traffic is backed up, people don't have time for a novel.
5. MEMORABLE
Being creative is easier said than done. Take a moment to think of any memorable ads that have stuck with you because of a creative design choice. What's going to make your ad stand out from the rest?
